Mrs. Vivian Virginia Scott

May 26, 1926 - September 1, 2016

Scott, Vivian Virginia (nee: Vroman) passed on peacefully on September 1, in Chesterfield, Missouri. Virginia, who always went by her middle name, was born in St. Louis on May 26, 1926. She was the youngest of four children – Buford, Gerald, Vinita, and Virginia. Her mother, Rita’s, death in 1939 was very traumatic for twelve-year old Virginia, who adored her. She and her beloved sister, Vinita, who was only three years older, had to care for themselves because their father, Orlando, worked for the Wabash Railroad and traveled constantly. In 1940, Virginia and Vinita moved to Decatur, Illinois where Orlando was stationed. There, Virginia met her future husband, Leonard Scott, who was attending Millikin University in Decatur. They were married in 1945, during Leonard’s short leave from military service during World War II. After the war, Virginia and Leonard lived in Decatur while Leonard completed his university studies. They had very fond memories of this time, although money was tight. They moved back to St. Louis in 1947 and later bought a house in Florissant. In 1962, Virginia was instrumental in starting Gaus-Scott Company, a HVAC manufacturers’ representative company, with Leonard and his partner. She and Leonard were very involved with the International Jaycees, where they made many life-long friends. Virginia and Leonard raised three children – Karen, Gary, and Julie, and were loving grandparents to Heather Pope Rock, Amanda Pope, and Jill Scott Grogan. They also have two great-grandsons – Forrest Rock and Luke Grogan. Virginia loved animals and especially adored her poodle, Sheba, and her yellow cat, Miss Kitty. Virginia had many passions, including art, travel, and connecting with people.
