Thomas R. Karins

June 11, 1931 - March 7, 2021

Karins, Thomas R. “Tom” & “Dick” 89, died Sunday, March 7, 2021 following brief illness. He is survived by Jean (Quense), his wife of 68 yrs., his brother Joe, 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Thomas R. “Dick” Karins was born in Bloomfield, New Jersey in 1931. He attended Seton Hall College Prep High School and then Villanova University. He was a proud Villanova graduate who reveled in their multiple NCAA Basketball Championships. He was also a Korean War veteran serving from 1952-1954. After leaving the military Dad began his long career in telecommunications working for Western Electric and AT&T. Dad and Mom were married in 1952, enjoyed their early married life in New Jersey and Maryland, and then made the move to St. Louis in 1966. The Karins family thrived in St. Louis. Dad was a devout Catholic who was dedicated to supporting the Passionist Nuns convent. He and mom forged lasting friendships with the Sisters. Dad was a volunteer at Mercy hospital for 30 years after he retired. Retirement also brought opportunities for he and mom to travel extensively. Most importantly retirement brought a ton of family time including annual family reunions at the beach in Florida with all of the kids and grandkids. Dad and Mom’s marriage was a gift that spanned 68 years. Dad’s love for his 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren has been wonderful for us all. Dad lived his life committed to his priorities of God, Family, and Country. Thank you for everything Dad. We miss you. We love you. Services: Visitation at Buchholz Mortuary West, Chesterfield on Tuesday, March 9, 4-7pm. Funeral Mass at St. Clare of Assisi, Ellisville, Wednesday, March 10 at 12PM. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
