Karen L. Scheer
December 15, 1954 - April 24, 2021
Karen Lynn Scheer (nee Wischmeyer) born on December 15, 1954 and in the arms of Jesus on April 24, 2021. Karen was the incredible wife of her high school sweetheart Stanley Scheer (Married November 16, 1974) an amazing mom to the late Brian Scheer, Brandon (Carole) Scheer of Ocean Park, Washington and Melissa (Michael) Carr of Roseville, California. She was the absolutely most intentional and kind hearted Gramma to Micah, Jonah and Levi Scheer and Nathan, Aliyah and Grant Carr. Karen was the daughter of the late Warren and Vivian Wischmeyer and daughter-in-love to the late Oscar and Mary Scheer. Karen is survived by her brothers Don (Darlene) Wischmeyer and Ken (Brenda) Wischmeyer, her sisters-in-law Linda (Dan) Kutzgar and Maura Wischmeyer along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Roger Wischmeyer. Karen left a legacy to all those she knew. She touched lives with her love of Jesus, the way she let her faith lead her life, her thoughtful notes, gifts, mentorship, presence and genuine care and concern for all those around her. Karen dedicated her life to not just her family and friends but also to her church and school. She was raised at Grace Chapel Lutheran Church and School and attended, worked and served at Grace from birth through her death. She could always be found helping in one way or another, either through her 50 years of teaching Sunday School, leading a woman’s bible class, making sure that funeral luncheons were a treasured time for a family or planning an event like the church picnic or auction. Karen started the before and after school program and was a pre-school teacher’s assistant for many years. One of Karen’s most favorite things in the world were her grandchildren. There was not a single person who did not know about the most precious 6 people in the world to her. She loved them fiercely up until the very end. She knew what made each of them tick, how to communicate with them and how to love them in a way that no one else quite understood. Karen took being a “Gramma” as the number one job in her life. A hurdle Karen faced in life was her first cancer diagnosis (Colon Cancer)over 8 years ago and again about a year and a half ago (Blood Cancer). She did not let these diagnoses define her, but used it as a way to share her faith, persevere and be a witness to others. She fought and conquered colon cancer when she was told it would never go away and while fighting was given the diagnosis of MDS (a precursor to Leukemia that eventually did become Leukemia). In the past couple of weeks, it became apparent that God was calling this amazing woman home. Though this is so hard for us to understand here on earth, the fact that our wife, mom, gramma and friend was made perfect and whole again through the death and resurrection of Jesus gives us great joy in our sorrow. Please celebrate Karen’s life here on earth and her Eternal life in Heaven with us.
